:: 145 Students awarded (10/09/12)

We would like to inform our valuable students that starting from this year 2012 until

The Institute of Bankers in Malawi (IOB) on Friday 7th September, 2012 awarded 145 students with banking certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas in various areas of specialisation at a graduation ceremony held in Blantyre.

IOB Chairman, William Chatsala said the institute is playing a critical role in the promotion of professionalism in banking and finance in this country.

He said IOB is now well established, reputable and recognised with its affiliation to the University of Malawi (Unima) through the faculty of commerce at the Polytechnic.

"The institute is also a member of the Allied Associations of Institute of Bankers in Africa. The institute's certificates are, therefore, well recognised both in the country and the continent," said Chatsala who is also the Managing Director for Indebank.

He said since its establishment in 2007, IOB has made tremendous progress in improving the course curriculum in conjunction with the Management Development Centre at the Malawi Polytechnic as well as increasing student numbers and qualification levels over the years.

"We update our curriculum every year to take into account the various developments in the industry. So, as the student's study, they get exposed to new things that are coming up in banking," he said.

Unima's Vice Chancellor Emmanuel Fabiano said the partnership between the University and IOB is greatly fulfilling its mandate to provide education to different groups of people.

"Much as we (Unima) always introduce new programmes, there are always opportunities for other organisations to ask us to assist them with whatever training needs that they may have," Fabiano said.

This is the forth graduation ceremony IOB has held since its establishment in 2007. Students graduating specialise in areas such as marketing, financial planning, international banking and credit management.
