Malawi stock exchange listed NBS Bank has reaffirmed its commitment towards charity work in the country.
Over the week, the bank made donations to various organizations as part of its corporate social responsibility.
On Tuesday, the bank presented MK1.5 million to the Institute of Bankers (IOB) towards the 2018 Annual Bankers Conference slated for end August.
On Wednesday, the bank also donated cash amounting to MK750, 000 towards the Institute of Internal Auditors’ annual conference
NBS Bank Head of Marketing, Lorraine Phiri, said the bank appreciates the importance of the two sectors to the economy.
Phiri said NBS Bank is committed to the development of the banking and auditing industries in Malawi.
Among other topics, the bankers’ conference would discuss financial inclusion.
The conference comes at time the majority of Malawians remain financially excluded as they are not able to own a bank account.
Phiri said NBS Bank has developed many initiatives aimed at reaching to as many Malawians as possible with formal banking services.
This will be the third year, IOB is organizing the bankers’ conference.
IOB Executive Director, Lyness Nkungula, said the conference has been crucial in addressing challenges facing the industry.
“We are very thankful to NBS for the contribution. We have budgeted MK70 million for the conference. This contribution will go a long way in making the conference a success,” Nkungula said.
In a related development, NBS bank also donated over MK250,000 to St Michaels Girls Secondary School alumni.
